Introduction: Each year, EWI Chapters make a “Special Delivery” to students in their communities: Scholarship Awards. The following are Corporate scholarship winners, selected from first place Chapter scholarship winners. We applaud the efforts of these students in preparing themselves to be valuable contributors to society. EWI’s investment in these motivated individuals will pay back many fold – for themselves, their families, and their communities.
FIRST PLACE
Winshen (Winnie) Liu
EWI of Chicago
Caring and outgoing, Winnie loves working with people and volunteering. Her work has ranged from performing at nursing homes to teaching English to disadvantaged Taiwanese first-graders. Winnie aspires to become an educator. Winnie graduated as valedictorian of Naperville Chinese School and she hopes to do the same in high school. Winnie served as Associate Chief Justice in Youth and Government and was elected as President of the Judicial Branch. She also co-founded JSA Debate Club and is now President. Winnie is also the Editor-in-Chief of Literary Magazine, President of her school’s National Spanish Honor Society, a black belt in Shotokan karate and plays violin, viola, piano, and cello.
SECOND PLACE
Sarah Wittman
EWI of Milwaukee
Sarah has a passion for engineering. She plans to study computer and mechanical engineering with a goal to work with robotics and automated assembly. First in her class, Sarah is a member of the National Honor Society. She is captain of the robotics and chess teams, plays varsity tennis, is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a member of the art club, and a school ambassador. She serves on the Girl Scout Youth Leadership Council and earned the Gold Award. Sarah has logged over 1,150 hours of service while in high school. Her focus is to promote science, technology, engineering, and math education. She received the Prudential Spirit of Community Bronze Award and the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

J. Nathan Cantrell
EWI of Knoxville
Nathan is in the top 1% of his class at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. He is active in the National Beta Club, Latin Club, and has been selected as Gatlinburg-Pittman’s delegate to the Tennessee Boys State Leadership Seminar. As a scholar-athlete, Nathan is on the Varsity basketball, cross country, and soccer teams. However, Nathan still finds time to serve his community by serving with over 15 charities in the Knoxville area.

Dhara Sheth
EWI of Tulsa
Dhara plans on studying business and becoming a psychiatrist. She is ranked first in her class of over 1,100 students, achieved a 4.0 unweighted GPA, and will have completed 13 Advanced Placement classes. A founder and officer of Young Democrats, she is also the treasurer of Key Club and National Honor Society, and is active in Amnesty International and Drug-Free Youth. Dhara also writes for the youth section in the Tulsa World and volunteers at OSU Medical Center. Dhara has taken Bharathnatym (classical Indian dance) classes since she was 10, and enjoys other types of Indian dance as well.
Lorilyn Roller
EWI of Seattle
Lorilyn lives by a standard of servant leadership. She is involved in the Business and Marketing Program DECA, plays the viola, is captain of the swim team, and serves as Hazen’s ASB President. She is a lifeguard and swim instructor and furthers her relations with her community as a Seafair Ambassador. After traveling to Africa, Europe, and Asia, she hopes to continue traveling during college. For her two years on the policymaking Washington State Board of Education, Lorilyn has been the voice for Washington State students.
Ashley Sweeney
EWI of Kansas City
Ashley is dedicated to her schoolwork and is challenging herself with four Advanced Placement classes this semester. She is involved in various activities in school, from a newly created girl’s golf team, to Scholar’s Bowl, to a mentoring program. Ashley is vice-president of FCA and is running for a class officer position. After graduation, Ashley plans to attend a four-year university with a focus on pre-medicine and an undetermined major. She hopes to attend medical school and become a cardiologist. Outside of school she participates in activities ranging from a church youth group to Project SKIP.
Ami Tai
EWI of Oklahoma City
Amy is passionate about her service projects which include volunteering at the library as a shelver and with the literacy and children’s program, enviro-organizing with the Sierra Student Coalition, and helping underprivileged youth in Tulsa, OK. At school she enjoys mathematics and computer science. She hopes to apply these interests as a bioinformatist to help the public better understand large data sets derived from medical, pharmacological, and other health related fields.
Archana Ramesh
EWI of San Diego
With a 4.5 GPA, Archana is ranked number two in her school. She has participated in Academic League, Peer Leaders Uniting Students Club, and Tennis team. Archana has played in the Orchestra for the past three years and currently serves as principal viola. Founder and president of Students Without Borders, Archana also holds executive leadership positions in the California Scholarship Federation as well as the National
Honors Society. She won a Chargers Champions Scholarship for excellence in leadership and community service. Archana plans to pursue a career in medicine and become a pediatrician.
