On Thursday, September 23rd, 2010, EWI will invite 2nd grade students to our
EWI Corporate Reading Rally luncheon at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown for a special program. EWI has a chance to make a difference to the students at Whittier Elementary School in Kansas City this fall and we need your help and support to make the
EWI Corporate Reading Rally a success. Plans are to hold a story writing contest with the 2nd graders and award prizes to the winning students during this event.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! We invite all member firms, Chapters, and representatives to partner with us in this unique opportunity to help these students and support literacy through monetary and in-kind donations. With your help we can make this year another success. The following are some of the items we wish to donate to the students at Whittier elementary:

- Backpacks
- Pencils
- Erasers
- Markers
- Glue Sticks
- Crayons
- Pocket Folders
- Scissors
- Hand Sanitizers
- Kleenex Tissues

- ELMO Document Camera
- Digital Camera
- Memory Cards
- Flash drives (for students and teachers)
- Smart Boards
- LCD Projector

In addition to the above supplies, we hope for donors to:
- Subsidize the cost of lunch for the children and teachers at the Reading Rally
- Provide the story writing kits for the children (includes journal or writing paper, pencils and markers)
- Subsidize the cost of bus transportation to and from the hotel
- Provide Reading Rally T-shirts for the children

Contributions will be recognized at the Reading Rally luncheon. The Reading Rally is designed to encourage and stimulate children to improve their reading and writing skills, which will raise their self-esteem and confidence. We feel the EWI Reading Rally literacy program will have a positive impact on these children and will potentially improve their school performance as it takes place early in the school year.
